Grandma's Attic
ALSO CALLED "MY STASH".
....a place a woman with way too much "stuff" gives others a chance to have treasures too.
Here are
the fabrics that I was going to make into beautiful couture outfits, dramatic
dresses, slinky skirts, billowy blouses, and other things that never got beyond
my imagination.
And here will be the vintage fabric yardage,
vintage lace, vintage hats, vintage clothing, and other neat old things
that I've been collecting because..."I'll need this someday".
I had a pipe break twice since I moved here in 1996. My water pipes are in my
ceiling.
The first time it was over a corner in my fabric
store room. The second time it was in between store area and personal storage
area .....it wasn't just some store fabric that was ruined. Along with my own baby
booties and art paper, some of my vintage fabric stash was lost: pieces from my mother's
and my grandmother's sewing.... bled on and stained.
That ended my dithering. I knew I would never make a quilt
with Mom's pique or Grandma's calico. And if I did nothing, eventually they would all be
gone, through one disaster or another.
PLEASE NOTE : In the state of Pennsylvania, there is no sales tax on clothing, on millenary (hats), on fabric to be used in clothing or millinery (hats), trimming for clothing or millinery (hats), or on corsetry and corsetry supplies. If it goes into your wearing clothing and stays there as part of what you wear, it isn't taxed (pins and needles aren't supposed to stay in your clothing so they're taxed!). CRAFT items are taxable. Quilts, doilies, table cloths and bedsheets, doll clothes... and things to make them ... are taxable. I will mark all the things that are taxable and if you live in the state of Pennsylvania sales tax will be added.
To start with I'm taking pictures of my mother's and my fabric stashes.
Polyester knit. I couldn't resist this piece. I got it when I had my storefront back in 1990 but never made anything...just fondled it and drank in the color. It is time it became something for someone. I need to measure this one...it's 3 or 4 yds and I think 45" wide??? It will be $5.00/yd sold as a piece. |

Cotton sports cloth. This is a tightly woven, very nice cotton that was woven in wide strips. If you look at the turned over edge 'collar', you will see thin lines... that are actually float threads going to the next area in which they are woven. Don't ask me how it works... but it does! This is 42" wide and there is about 2.5 yards. There is a short purple mark on the fabric about 9" in from one end ...looks like a stray marker? $9.00 for the piece. |

Cotton gingham. This is so very fine! I can't get over how nice the 'common cottons' used to be. The colors are bright and true. I think this is from the end of the 50s. The piece is 34" wide and 2 yards 21 inches long. If you look at the bodice on Suzy Q (above) you'll see there is a strip cut out from the end of one selvedge... 1.25" wide by 22" long. $8.00 the piece. |
